On March 30th, I created a new habit that would ensure that I made it through the rest of this year and beyond mentally.

That day, I made the commitment to exercise on my stationary bike for 15 minutes everyday until the end of 2020.

On Tuesday, I celebrate 100 consecutive days of exercise, otherwise known as The Streak!

During that time, I have cycled over 520 miles.

This was due to feeling terrible, fighting depression (mainly due to the pandemic and worrying about my elderly parents), and only sleeping a few hours each night due to a severe relapse of sleep apnea.

Getting on that bike each day was one of the best decisions I ever made.

Over several weeks the depression stopped.

I was also able to sleep again and felt great.

The main reason it has worked is that I decided to make it a daily habit.

Once I wake up, I drink a 34-ounce bottle of Alkaline water to hydrate and then get on the bike.

I call it 15 Minutes of Fury as it is not a light workout.

It involves a lot of effort and my speed has increased from 15 mph to between 20-23 mph for the workouts.

My Amazon Echo Dot (Thank you Amazon Alexa) is hooked up to a powerful set of Logitech speakers and plays 4-5 songs from my workout list for each workout.

Workout songs range from artists including Tupac, Biggie, Queen, NWA, Public Enemy, LL Cool J, and music from Rocky.

It has saved my life!

Best workout mix I have found is a combination of California Love, Hypnotize, Headsprung, and Dougie!

Is it easy to work out every day?

Absolutely not!

There are days that I do not want to exercise, but the thought of skipping the workout is NEVER an option.

I will not break the streak!

Again, it is about creating a daily habit.

Do my legs hurt at times?

Absolutely!

My thighs are always in a little pain as there are no days off, but the slight pain feels like a badge of honor.

There are days when my legs hurt while exercising and all I do is reduce the pace for that day to ensure the workout gets done.

If you are struggling and dealing with depression and anxiety (as many of us are in these times), then I highly recommend taking up an exercise routine as mental health is critical right now.
